Abstract
Today, systems based on capitalism, due to their one-dimensional approach to societal progress and welfare, as well as their lack of cultural compatibility with Islamic societies, have created fundamental challenges in the realm of governance. Therefore, the design of indigenous governance models is an essential requirement for Islamic societies. The mechanism for achieving and designing such a model is grounded in derivation from religious texts. Nahj al-Balagha, as a political text recounting the events of the caliphate of Amir al-Mu’minin (peace be upon him), can provide valuable guidance in this regard. Accordingly, the research question of the present study is: What are the requirements for ideal Alawi governance from the perspective of Nahj al-Balagha? The answer to this question is sought through a thematic-interpretive method and by constructing a conceptual framework. The findings indicate that the main requirements of governance exist on three levels: individual characteristics, behavioral traits, and criteria for selecting an ideal ruler; the second level pertains to attention to governance objectives, which constitutes the most important distinction between governance models; and the third level involves the reciprocal rights of the ruler and the people within the Alawi governance model. In this approach, the Alawi governance model adopts a multifaceted perspective on governance; while emphasizing the role of the ruler in governance, it also places special emphasis on the role of the people.
